Janet Jackson's jub tops Google search list

Katrina pops out at number 2

Published Thursday 22nd December 2005 12:40 GMT

Anyone concerned that the internet is increasingly becoming a place where people go to find useful stuff out at the expense of the kind of material which made the web what it is today can rest assured that all is in fact well.

The proof comes in the form of Google's top ten search items for 2005 - topped by Janet Jackson whose Superbowl nip slip and nude paparazzi material pipped the less pressing matters of "Hurricane Katrina" and "Tsunami" into second and third places, respectively.

The list thereafter is a depressing read indeed:

  1. Janet Jackson
  2. Hurricane Katrina
  3. Tsunami
  4. Xbox 360
  5. Brad Pitt
  6. Michael Jackson
  7. American Idol
  8. Britney Spears
  9. Angelina Jolie
  10. Harry Potter

According to Google, as reported by the Beeb, the results show "how net use is maturing and how it has become more than a place people only go to shop". No, what it actually shows is that when it boils down to it some celeb with her kit off is what floats netizens' boats. Now, if you'll excuse us, we're off for a quick search for "Angelina+Jolie+upskirt". ®
