Ebuyer caught pinching content again

Once is a misfortune but twice looks like carelessness

Ebuyer has again been caught stealing content from rival websites.

Once again, the site didn't even bother with a traditional cut and paste but left content to be hosted by the website it was stealing from.

We were contacted by a couple of Reg readers who noticed spooky similarities between several Ebuyer pages and those on rival retailer MoreComputers.com. The pages were not only identical, but if you clicked on "features" or "specifications" you were taken not to another page of Ebuyer but to the relevant page of MoreComputers.com.

A spokesman for morecomputers.com said: "Unbelievable, we've checked our log files and found this content and link also. There's a cost associated to providing detailed descriptions and we're outraged to think this content is being stolen. We'd like to stress we have no connection with the company and will be investigating further ahead of contacting them. One good thing to see is the product costs £36 less at MoreComputers.com."

MoreComputers is continuing to investigate to see if any more of its content has been liberated.

Ebuyer, which got caught doing exactly the same thing at the end of February, refused to comment on this story.

This is a screen grab of the relevant ebuyer page, and this is a grab of the strangely identical page on Morecomputers.com. ®
