Microsoft UK changes mind on distie beauty parade

Lady's prerogative

Microsoft has changed its mind on changing its UK broadline distributors.

Back in October, Microsoft UK said it was starting a six-month review process that would see it choose two out of three existing broadline, or general, distributors. The three in line for the X-Factor-style contest were Bell Micro, Ingram and C2K. Each company got a monthly score based on its performance.

The three companies were set a variety of targets to impress the software giant that they were worthy to keep distribution rights.

But Microsoft has changed its mind and is now keeping all three on board.

Steve Haddock, Microsoft UK's partner group manager, told CRN: "Four months ago I was certain that we only needed two broadliners, but they have all upped their game and proven that they've all got different things to bring to the table. If I got rid of one now it would be like cutting my nose off to spite my face."

Microsoft is keeping its specialist distributors, including Gem, for retail customers.
