PSP owners to get Lost early 2008

Sky punts content to Sony

Published Friday 27th July 2007 15:22 GMT

Sky has announced a deal with Sony to provide video content to UK PSP users, which can be downloaded over Wi-Fi or via their computer.

Due to launch early next year, this will be the first official video service for the PSP in Europe.

But Sky isn't just promising content from its own channels. Its hope is to manage a video portal for selling content from other brands and channels.

Sky will develop, and own, the user interface for the service - giving it the opportunity to sell all sorts of content to PSP owners, as well as testing its capabilities for selling to other platforms.

Sky By Mobile, the video streaming service Sky's been punting to mobile phone users, hasn't been doing much business. The quality of video has proved inconsistent, so the hope is a download-then-play model will prove more attractive to punters.

More details, and an official launch date, are promised at the Leipzig Games Convention in August. ®
