Claranet has blamed data centre Global Switch for a power failure early this morning which brought down many of its customers' websites.
The problem was caused by a power failure at Global Switch 2 in London - its purpose-built data centre which claims two independent power supplies. The company boasts that it's Europe's biggest purpose-built centre.
Claranet, which apologised to customers hit by the downtime, said two routers went down as a result of the power failure. Its engineers are still monitoring the problem, although power has been restored.
Claranet said:
The problem was with Global Switch and the issue was resolved as follows:
- 2:54 AM - power issue
- 3.30 AM power restored to GS2 overall
- 3.50 AM power restored to all Claranet customers in GS2 and began checking customer specific services
Global Switch was unable to comment. ®
