GGF says plenty of treasure for Pirate Bay purchase

It's not Wayne's World, it's mine

Global Gaming Factory X AB (GGF) has broken its silence about the planned acquisition of notorious BitTorrent tracker site The Pirate Bay, by saying it expects the deal to complete on 27 August.

The move follows days of uncertainty about the Swedish company's ability to fund any takeover of TPB, after ex-Grokster boss Wayne Rosso upped sticks just a few short fractious weeks after joining forces with GGF.

The internet cafe software firm's CEO Hans Pandeya issued a robust statement, presumably to help calm any jangling investor nerves, following Rosso's departure.

He claimed GGF can pony up funds to buy and then legalise The Pirate Bay.

"A group of investors are prepared to inject 30m [kronor] relating to the cash portion of the purchase price of The Pirate at the date of acquistion," said the company.

The statement added that GGF was "in final negotiations with a global player on a 'hunt pirates agreement' which is expected to serve as a model for the entertainment industry."

Additionally the outfit is also mulling a rebrand. If the buyout completes successfully, GGF may be renamed The Pirate Bay, said an upbeat-sounding Pandeya.

However, Rosso's name was absent from the statement (Google translation from Swedish to English).

Meanwhile, TPB mouthpiece Peter Sunde, aka BrokeP, has been grumbling about looking for a "free lawyer" to represent him in a lawsuit brought by an anti-piracy group in the Netherlands. But that's not all that has been occupying his mind - BrokeP has also been pontificating on the ageing process.

"You know you're getting old when you're at home 1am to find lint in your navel for the first time and you almost puke by the cheesy smell," he mused. ®
