SpinVox consumer service croaks

You are being disconnected

Readers have let us know that SpinVox's UK consumer service will soon be croaking its last voicemail. The company translates voice messages to text. Last Thursday UK customers received the following text messages:

Dear customer, we regret to inform you that SpinVox is no longer supporting individual user accounts.  Your account will expire in 7 days.  Please call your mobile network provider, should u (sic) wish to re-enable standard voicemail service.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

SpinVox declined to return our call requesting comment.

Although SpinVox had shifted its focus to operators, the company had around 15,000 UK sign-ups, and made the service free for them through to the end of 2009. The company was acquired by Nuance in December last year.

Nuance accounts show that SpinVox lost £56.49m on revenue of just £7.87m in the nine months to 30 September 2009, and that revenue was exceeded by its interest obligations.
