Sonim nudges NFC into hard-as-nails handset

Communication that doesn't break down?

Mobile manufacturer Sonim has extended its range of hardened handsets with what it claims is the world's most rugged NFC phone: the XP1301 Core NFC

The XP1301 Core NFC rocks Sonim's familiar form-factor, sharing the fortified body of its other products, such as the XP3300, a long-life battery beast revealed at the Mobile World Congress show in February.

As with all the company's wares, the handset is said to be "beyond military specification" and can withstand harsh abuse. Whether you drop it, freeze it, heat it or swim with it, the XP1301 should keep ringing away, with its 2in, 240 x 320 pixel display, protected by a puncture proof Corning Gorilla Glass screen.

Battery life is impressive too, boasting 20-24 hours talk time and 800 hours standby. There's also active noise cancellation, a multimedia player, an FM radio, a torch and a MicroSD slot expandable to 16GB.

Should you have the use for such a device, an unlocked Sonim XP1301 Core NFC can be grabbed with a three-year warranty for £289. ®
