Yeah, suck it, Foxconn. 'Pegatron' 'nabs' '15%' of 'iPhone 6' 'production'

What a shock. Stop the world – this Reg hack wants to get off

Whispers among the iChattering classes today claim Taiwanese factory giant Pegatron has received orders from Apple to crank out a share of iPhone 6 handsets.

According to a report in Taiwan's Industrial and Commercial Times, it's rumoured Pegatron will build 15 per cent of all 4.7-inch iPhone 6 devices, which are likely to be launched this September.

The firm is expected to produce 50 million iPhones this year, which includes the latest model as well as older ones still rolling off the assembly lines.

Speculation about how much of a role Pegatron will play in Apple's ongoing production process has swirled all year. It was previously suggested that Pegatron was set to open a new factory in China to satisfy demand for the iPhone 6, with robot workers drafted in to replace human iDrones who today work on some parts of the the production line.

The 15 per cent figure would seem to prove claims that Apple intends to split production between Pegatron and Foxconn, its former favourite fabricator.

But here's a question: why all this fuss over what will be an updated iPhone?

All in all, it's just another slick brick in the Fall. ®
