Feedly DDoSed by ransom-threat crims: 'We refused to give in'

RSS bods stand up to cyber creeps

News aggregator Feedly has been knocked offline by a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack after refusing to pay criminals to stop the attack.

The RSS feed service said on its blog that the attackers had gone ahead with the DDoS after Feedly had refused their demands for money to make it stop.

“We refused to give in and are working with our network providers to mitigate the attack as best as we can,” Feedly said.

“We are working in parallel with other victims of the same group and with law enforcement,” the firm added.

Feedly didn’t name the other victims of the same group, but the attack on its services comes just hours after note-taking and web-clipping app Evernote came back online after suffering its own disruption of service.

Evernote was hit around 22:45 BST last night and only managed to get its services back up and running around six hours ago. ®
