Hungry Brit giant Daisy Group plans to gobble 'mid-market' tech sector

Ex-Logicalis man will help it 'capture the market'

Logicalis can add group CTO to its list of vacant staff roles as current incumbent Chris Gabriel heads for the door to join mid-market comms and tech beast Daisy Group.

Slough-based Logicalis is already looking for a local chief techie to cover the UK and Ireland. The exit of big hitter Gabriel will likely come as a blow to the infrastructure services biz.

Matthew Riley, CEO at fast-expanding Daisy Group, confirmed that technologist Gabriel will be joining the LSE-listed firm as its first ever chief innovation officer on 1 September.

“This is a massive move by Daisy to show its intentions as a serious player in the [mid-market technology sector]. We aim to capture the market like we have in communications,” he told The Channel.

Daisy has already scooped up numerous businesses via acquisition since it floated back in 2010, largely on the comms side but also in tech, including 2e2’s data centre operations and more recently Indecs.

Gabriel’s experience in tech will clearly influence the future acquisition strategy. He started at Logicalis in 2006 as director of marketing & solutions, was made veep of solutions management and group CTO just last September.

It has been a period of change for Logicalis with a new sales director signing up, the COO replacing the group CEO and a new services head joining earlier this year from Fujitsu.

Logicalis did not respond to calls for comment. ®
