Union bags 10% Verizon raise

The Communications Workers of America (CWA) is revealing some of the concessions it won in its new contract with Verizon.

The union said that the deal it agreed to Friday and formalized over the holiday weekend would add jobs and bring a pay rise for the workers who manage Verizon's wired networks on the East Coast of the US.

According to the CWA, the deal includes a 10.9 per cent pay rise to be doled out over the next four years. Verizon will also agree to add 1,300 new call center jobs in the region and will sign a contract with Verizon Wireless store workers in New York and Massachusetts. ®
