Via-S3 deal put on standby

Taiwanese gov wants more info

A report on Techweb Finance claims that the Taiwanese government has delayed the proposed joint venture between S3 and Via.

According to the story, the government wants additional information from Via before approving the move, which was originally expected to be given the official regulatory rubber stamp by the end of last month.

Via paid S3 $377 million to buy its graphics chip business which it uses in some of the chipsets it builds.
