Ten out of 30 secondhand computer dealers whose phone numbers appears in a "mainstream" magazine "appear to have been convicted of hi-tech crime", The Sun claims today.

The Sun names no names - either of convicted dealers or of the "mainstream magazines" in which they are "selling on stolen machines" - presumably because of libel considerations. We think this is a major fudge.

One in five business burglaries involve PC theft, according to Home Office figures cited by The Sun. The cost at £1 billion a year far outstrips credit card fraud which costs the country £300 million a year. ®
