Rogue ISPs are pirate havens

The BSA claims...

Rogue European ISPs are acting as havens for illegal software download sites, anti-piracy outfit the Business Software Alliance claims.

These ISPs fail to comply with 'take-down' notices for pirate sites served by the BSA, Margo Miller, head othe European internet enforcement unit, told IT site Silicon.com.

The BSA is lobbying the EU for tougher laws to help its anti-piracy crackdowns. And last month it sent take-down notices to European ISPs hosting 400 sites offering illegal software downloads. The anti-piracy organisation claims a 91 per cent success rate, according to Silicon.com. So that makes 364 sites hosted by 'clean ISPs' and 36 sites hosted by rogue ISPs in Europe, by our calculation.

The BSA also referred another 250 sites to its US office. ®
