US Marshals seize $1m fake Adaptec SCSI cards

But they're old technology

US Marshals have kicked some butt and seized 5,000 fake Adaptec SCSI controller cards valued at $1 million.

Counterfeit AHA-2940 and AHA-3940 host bus adapters, together with faked software and documentation were grabbed from five California companies and one Colorado-based company.

These were GlobalNet Computer Components, Amcotec, Lexy Pacific Corp, Globe Cargo, Unisun Group, and Global Source Technology.

Several other defendants are also being sued on allegations of trademark and copyright infringement for trafficking and possessing counterfeit goods, according to Adaptec CEO, Bob Stephens. "We will not stand idly by as others seek to benefit improperly from our hard work," he said.

The faked SCSI controller cards are already two product generations out of date.

Adaptec's UK sales office said there was no worldwide alert to watch out for the fake adapters and, in general, counterfeit kit is a rarity. The last one seen in the UK by the Adaptec office, which was several months ago, was a bit of a novelty and obviously a rip off because the board was the wrong colour. ®
