AMD gets business boost in Germany

Maxdata backs Chimpzilla for large corporates

Germany's third largest computer manufacturer, Maxdata, is to use both AMD Athlon and Duron processors in systems aimed at enterprise and small business users in Germany. A number of other European manufacturers including Vobis and Tiny have also recently moved away from an Intel-only product line.

Maxdata supplies systems to Germany's top 500 companies in addition to mid-sized firms, rather than to home users.

"This is truly a significant win for AMD, because it demonstrates confidence in AMD technology for use in business enterprises," said Giuliano Meroni, AMD's veep of European Sales and Marketing. "AMD continues to work on penetrating this important segment of the market, not only in Europe but also in other regions of the world. When it comes to meeting the needs of enterprise, AMD means business."

Jochen Polster, MD of AMD Germany, added: "We believe that the cooperation between Maxdata and AMD will be an important factor in expanding AMD's penetration into the enterprise market."

Maxdata's first AMD systems are expected to be delivered in January. The company had a revenue of DM 2.2 billion in 1999, making it one of the top ten IT products manufacturer in Europe. ®
