Baby Pentium 4 materialises

1.3GHz part appears on secure Intel Web site

Intel's IPD Web site, the prime source of information for small system-builders, now lists a 1.3GHz Pentium 4 alongside the 1.4GHz and 1.5GHz parts launched last month.

The new baby P4 is aimed at plugging the price/performance gap between the top of the Pentium III range and the existing P4s - a space briefly occupied by the ill-fated 1.13GHz PIII, hastily recalled due to reliability problems. Like its faster siblings, the new part should ship bundled with 128MB RDRAM.

The site says:

"The following Intel Boxed Processors are currently available through authorized Intel boxed products distributors. Please note the following listed part numbers are Intel specific and may not correspond with your distributors equivalent SKUs. Please check with your distributor for specific part numbers to use when placing orders."

The site quotes the following part numbers:
1.5GHz - BX80528JK150GR.
1.4GHz - BX80528JK140GR.
1.3GHz - BX80528JK130GR.

Pricing details have yet to be revealed, but the addition of the 1.3GHz part is an indication that it should be in the shops any day now, possibly as early as this weekend, when price cuts of almost 20 per cent are due on existing Pentium 4s. ®
