Woundup Brace yourself for the new Windows XP UI

Will it get .NETed?

When the Woundup first begun, I asked the readers what they thought of the Windows UI. Some say it needs major changing, other say people like us make Windows "buggy". Although, after much speculation, it's highly probable we will see Microsoft's new UI, codenamed Luna, in Windows XP "Luna will come with Beta 2, but I can't say more than that," said a source to Paul Thurrott. But this isn't exactly classified - a couple of months back Microsoft execs were telling The Register to expect the real new UI in Beta 2, so really we're talking no change of plans here. Yet.

Microsoft is doing its best to keep the more recent Windows XP beta builds and the forthcoming Beta 2 under cover to prevent a possible leak (2419's all over the place though, and we'll let you know when the next one escapes - Ed). According to a recent report at CNET, Luna could very well be an XML-based .NET shell. Which means that both the look and feel of Windows XP will be different; maybe unnoticeable. Also, expect to see more ties to Internet Explorer 6.0, as well as a possible UI change for IE6. Again, this is all speculation and information from sources inside of Microsoft, but we won't know anything until Beta 2 is released early next week.

Losing e-mails can be a real hazard for some because they sometimes contain crucial information. But what if you could rescue all those e-mails before they are partially, or maybe completely, deleted. Dave Methvin at WinMag.com has some tips and tricks for you to follow if you accidentally lose e-mails in Outlook Express. You never know when your computer may not boot-up and you want to retrieve those love letters you're Internet wife sent you - this page will save you.

I saw a link on Win2kCentral, which led to ipKonfig.com where you can find the current list for possible bug fixes in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. Although the date of release is uncertain, you can use this list to judge if you will be updating or not.

It seems Bill Gates has gone broke after selling three million shares of Microsoft stock yesterday, totaling over $190 million. In over three months, Gates has sold over eighteen million shares valued at more than $880 million. Poor guy, I think we should start some kind of fund to at least help his kids get through high school.
