Dotcom hacks do it ‘Their Way’

And now, the end is near...

It's Friday, the popular day in the week when job cuts are announced in this crazy, mixed-up dotcom world.

And British music portal - music3w.com - is no exception.

A month ago execs told around 19 of their staff that due to the current climate they had better sling their hooks.

However, a fair wedge of the cuts were in editorial and today was their last day. So, some enterprising music hacks decided to leave in style.

They posted a short news story announcing that their time had finally come.

"IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT..." they wrote. "Music3w.com goes to the great website in the sky. As from today music3w.com will be no more."

The notice was hastily withdrawn after it became clear this wasn't strictly true. The site is still running - albeit with just ten staff as opposed to almost 30 - and the site's owners are still trying to raise cash/find a buyer/woo more investors/survive (make up your own mind which).

Still, nice way to go lads. El Reg salutes you. ®
