Transmeta powers ‘pearly pink’ PC for pussy

Hello Kitty gets kitted up

Transmeta has made its coolest design win yet: its Crusoe 5600 chip will power a notebook styled on Japan's most famous pussy.

Yes, cute kids cartoon craze, Hello Kitty, will soon have her own "pearly pink" coloured sub-notebook PC, according to the button-eyed kitten's creator, Sanrio.

To be fair, it's note a Transmeta design win per se - the Hello Kitty notebook is a recased Casio Cassiopeia Fiva MPC-205, which just happens to be based on the TM5600.

And the new machine, which is due to ship at the end of March solely from Sanio's Hello Kitty Web site, may not do much for Transmeta's bottom line: only 500 machines will be made.

That said, so popular is Hello Kitty in the Land of the Rising Sun that we're sure demand will be high enough to 'persuade' Sanrio to ship more of the A5-sized sub-notebooks. The initial run will cost ¥185,00 ($1598) each. ®
