Philips to sell PCP

Now that is diversifying

It is not often that major electronic companies call press conferences to announce that they are deeply involved in illegal drugs trade, and we suspect that Philips did not intend to do so.

However, at its pre-CeBit press conference, while exclaiming happily about the flatness of the PC market relative to sales of peripherals, Philips, perhaps unwisely, abbreviated PC Peripherals to "the PCP".

Yes, PCP. Otherwise known as Angel Dust.

Only a few people sniggered when Philips marketing manager, Mick Duffy, said happily that year on year Philips PCP sales had increased 60 per cent, and made predictions about increased revenues from the PCP market next year.

Almost certainly bad news for its competition - drug cartels are notoriously touchy about people cutting into their business.*

According to our research (online, not back street) PCP was originally developed as an anaesthetic, although it was found to be unsafe and after repeated testing and shelving, eventually became a veterinary anaesthetic instead.

Toxic doses can cause the user to become violent, hostile and to behave in a psychotic manner. Just like IT journalists. ®

*Obviously, we are not suggesting that Philips is a drug cartel. Don't be stupid.
