Last day of BSA unlicensed software truce

Fines kick in tomorrow

Today is the last chance for businesses in five US cities caught with pirated software to escape prosecution.

The Business Software Alliance's month-long software piracy truce, affecting Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas and Denver, runs out in a few hours.

Through the scheme, which is the third software truce put into operation by the BSA in the US in six months, the BSA promised not to take action against businesses with dodgy software - providing they bought the relevant licenses.

The BSA said it is planning another truce in the spring, but the cities involved have not yet been named.

Software vendors normally expect around $150,000 for each unlicensed copy of software they are found with. ®
