Itanic Zombies check into Motel of Distinction
Chipzilla striptease continues
Intel has fleshed out its www.itanium.com page, although the website, much like the moribund processor itself, promises much more than it actually delivers.
Itanium.com features the bug-eyed Blue Men Group striking a particularly un-dead pose (zombie flick auteur George Romero may have been advising on this shot, we suspect) and if the central Blue Man isn't Bez from Happy Mondays, we’ll eat our maracas.
But the site contains nothing about Itanium, instead there’s everything you could want to know about the er, … Pentium 4 processor. This may mislead castaways, Mir cosmonauts or anyone else returning to civilisation into thinking that Itanic is Pentium 4.
It’s actually three years since Intel registered the domain, and with a release of some sort promised by mid-year, it’s probably time for Intel’s flagship chip of the future to point to something other than its glorious recent past.
Register Factoid 841: Itanic.com, although coined by our own Mike Magee, is currently being cybersquatted by ubiquitous chip analyst Nathan Brookwood of Insight64 (and formerly Dataquest).
Many thanks to readers who drew the connection between Chipzilla trademarking 'Intel Hotels of Distinction', and the Bates Motel. How this gag escaped us, we don’t know. ®
