SCC grabs £390m desktop deal from Computacenter

Whoops, butterfingers

SCC has grabbed a £390 million, five year, desktop supply deal from rival Computacenter.

SCC will now handle desktop services for IT outsourcer Computer Sciences' customers. This means Computer Sciences is SCC's customer, and Computer Sciences customers include BAE Systems, Du Pont, AMP, JP Morgan and Bhs.

This is SCC's biggest deal and it is thought to be the second biggest desktop contract ever awarded in the UK.

Computacenter has a desktop deal with BT which is likely to be bigger, so a quick bit of elementary logic suggests Computacenter may well have just lost its second biggest contract.

And worse, the SCC deal was not won through competitive tender. It was just invited to put together a bid for the business, so Computacenter must have put itself well out of the frame for some reason. Marketing director Judy Grove said: "Computer Sciences were looking for a partner they could trust."

What was Computacenter up to... surely not trying to convince Computer Sciences' customers to cut out the middleman?

The deal was signed yesterday, but SCC started working with Computer Sciences customers several months ago. ®
