Intel cuts desktop, mobile CPU prices by up to 23%

Snip! Snip! Snip!

Intel cut its prices this weekend, as expected, across its Pentium 4 and III, and Celeron lines, in their Mobile and desktop forms.

So, the 1.5GHz P4 fell to $519, the 1.4GHz part to $375 and the 1.3GHz chip to $268, representing 19, 11 and 19 per cent cuts, respectively. The reductions pave the way for the launch next weekend of the 1.7GHz P4, which will now come in at $701.

The 1GHz PIII fell to $225 from $241 and the 933MHz part dropped to $193 from $225. Both the 866MHz chip and the 850MHz P4 are now priced at $163. The first two chips are priced at levels we expect the P4 line to hit on 29 April, so expect PIII prices to be cut even further.

Mobile PIII CPUs whose prices were cut include the 900MHz part, which fell to $508 from $565, the 850MHz chip dropped to $348 from $523, the 800MHz PIII to $268 from $348, and the 750MHz fell to $241 from $268. The recently released 1GHz Mobile PIII wasn't cut in price - it's still at $722.

The price of the Low Voltage 750MHz Mobile PIII also remains unchanged, at $316, and the 500MHz Ultra Low Voltage Mobile PIII stays at $209. The 700MHz LV chip fell to $198.

Celerons fall as follows: the 800MHz part fell to $93 from $112, the 766MHz chip hit $79 from $103. The 733MHz Celeron is now priced at $76 (from $83), the 700MHz part is $73 (from $79) and the 666MHz chip $69. The 850MHz Celeron's price remains unchanged, at $138.

The 750MHz Mobile Celeron fell to $134 and the 650MHz part to $96. The 600MHz, 500MHz and 500MHz versions remain where they are, at $75, $70 and $70, respectively.

These prices are for Intel's OEM customers, and apply to processors bought in batches of 1000. ®
