Acer UK signs up Computer 2000

Channel Flannel

Acer has appointed Computer 2000 to distribute its branded PCs and peripherals into the UK market. Acer already has a relationship with Tech Data, Computer 2000's parent in other European markets. And it has three existing disties in the UK.

Acer UK is prepping a new tiered channel accreditation scheme, organising its resellers into Solution Partner, Acer Point and Reseller Partner categories.

Microage has sold off what it calls the CTI assets of distie Pinacor, its sole remaining operating business, for $21m. By assets, it is unclear whether this means Pinacor's stock, or whether Scansource is buying Pinacor unencumbered with debt. But whatever the paperwork, Scansource is now the effective owner of Pinacor.

Arizona-based MicroAge was once upon a time one of America's biggest hybrid distie/resellers. It was always threatening to come to Europe, but except for a few local liaisons, never quite made it here. The company is currently in chapter 11 and has been forced by creditors to close itself down.

Ideal Hardware is to distribute SuSE Linux. And its parent company Bell Microproducts Europe is building a great big warehouse in the West Midlands, three times bigger than its existing facility in Chessington. It will retain Chessington for the storage and server solutions business.
