Intel 0.13 micron Tualatin Pentium IIIs to ship late June
And prices will fall early July
Intel will ship its 0.13 micron version of the Pentium III - codenamed Tualatin - next month, according to the latest leak of the chip giant's pricing plans.
From the various roadmaps we've already seen (see Chipzilla gears up for 2GHz-plus PCs and Chipzilla readies 1GHz Mobile PIII), we were expecting Tualatin to ship in desktop and mobile forms in Q3. The latest pricing information suggests Intel has brought the release forward slightly, to late Q2. The company's official line is that 0.13 micron PIIIs will ship in Q3.
The latest prices were leaked to Web site Digit Life.
In the desktop space, the 1.2GHz Tualatin PIII will ship to OEMs for $321, and the 1.13GHz part will ship for $294. Both prices will be cut on 15 July, to $294 and $268, respectively. Both Tualatins will ship with 256KB of on-die L2 cache.
On the same day, incidentally, the 1.1GHz 0.18 micron PIII (with a 100MHz frontside bus) will see its price cut from its launch price of $268 to $241. Its launch is expected in June, along with a 100MHz FSB 1GHz PIII part. The 1GHz part will cost $193.
In the mobile market, Intel will launch five Tualatin parts - we'd been expecting only a couple. As anticipated, 1.13GHz and 1.06GHz Mobile Tualatin PIIIs will ship at $637 and $508, respectively.
To that list we can now add a 1GHz part at $401, a 933MHz chip at $284 and an 866MHz part at $251.
Now, according to our, earlier roadmap these three chips are down as 0.18 micron PIIIs based on the Coppermine-T core, not 0.13 micron Tualatins. Either Digit Life has got its labelling mixed up, or Intel has changed its mind.
Whatever, Mobile Tualatins ship with 512KB of on-die L2 cache whereas the Coppermine-Ts ship with 128KB (Celeron) and 256KB (PIII). ®
