WorldCom trains managers to axe staff
No doubt humanely and compassionately
Managers at WorldCom are undergoing one-day training sessions in order to learn how to make people redundant.
According to details seen by The Register ten dates have been set aside for managers to learn the skills necessary to manage the redundancy programme.
The last scheduled date for management training is Thursday, May 24, suggesting that the cull of more than 800 jobs will go ahead at the end of the month.
El Reg also understands that the number of workers to be made redundant has fallen slightly from the 832 reported earlier.
The latest internal figures reveal that 813 staff will go from the UK following the merger of WorldCom and its sister company, UUNet.
Some 538 jobs have been highlighted to be lost from the techie network side of the operation with 275 jobs being lost from sales and central services. ®
