Intel confirms Itanium release
Close enough for us
Don't take anyone else's word for it, Intel itself has finally admitted that its Itanium processor will 'ship' at the end of this month.
Well almost. Let's just say it's going to ship before the 6 June. That's the day Paul Otellini, executive veep and general manager of Intel's Architecture Group, will be in London to outline the company's digital hub strategy.
And, according to Intel's media alert, one of the topics he'll be discussing is: "Intel Itanium Processor: Now it's here who is using it, what for, and what's next?" (our emphasis).
Certain third-parties have already said the Itanic will have a bottle smashed against its noble prow on the 29 May. Intel is officially keeping mum, but it's nice to see even the chip giant lets these things slip out once in a while. ®
