Grasses on Scottish pirates

An industry snitch has pocketed £4,000 after grassing on a Scottish IT company for using pirated software.

Dumfries-based outfit Frazier International Group agreed to pay the Business Software Alliance (BSA) £40,000 after being caught using "a number of items" of software it either didn't have a license for, or for which it had the wrong license.

The company claimed the pirated goods, including software from Microsoft, Adobe and Symantec, started being used when the outfit experienced a period of rapid growth.

The BSA was tipped off about Frazier by a caller to its hotline. This unnamed caller has now claimed ten per cent of the "settlement" - a tidy £4,000.

According to Frazier, it "abhors the use of unlicensed software", with a representative claiming that the company was "pleased that a sensible and commercial resolution" had been reached. ®
