Xybernaut has selected the ATI Rage Mobility graphics chips to power its new Mobility Assistant wearable computer.

It's not exactly a huge design win for ATI, but a nice high-profile one all the same. One day we'll all be wearing computers, but in the meantime, the subject - and Xybernaut - collects acres of coverage.

The Rage Mobility processor incorporates what ATI calls a "single component graphics sub-system solution". The upshot is a smaller, cheaper, lower chip. Which is nice. You could get awful sweaty, having a PC stitched into your clothing - even one as small as the paper-back-sized Xybernaut.

For the Xybernaut wearable computer, thE ati chip powers either a 1.1in direct view head-mounted (i.e. in front of your eyes). display, or an all-light readable
touch-screen flat panel display.

recognition system and an optional camera and head-mounted display system.
