Nokia 3330

Mobile phone

Review Nokia announced three new phones at the IT tradeshow CeBit this year, of which the 3330 is the first to hit the streets. Building on the 3310's design, the 3330 adds WAP support, the ability to download games, and a couple of other enhancements.

The 3330 is aimed at the mass market and features all the things you would expect from such a phone, like changeable faceplates, and customisable logos and ringtones. The phone is a reasonable size at 48x113x22mm. There may be smaller models on the market, but in use it is adequate. However, the standard NiMH battery makes it heavy at 133g. The WAP browser is good, and the 33x24mm screen is big enough to make it usable. You can specify up to five different connection settings, which is useful if you want to experiment with different service providers.

WAP also makes its way into the games menu, allowing you to update the built-in games should you get bored with them. Click the Games Services menu option and you are taken to a special part of Club Nokia - Nokia's site for phone owners. From here you can download additional levels directly to your mobile phone.

The 3330 also includes Chat SMS, a bit like instant messenger over SMS, although at around 10p a message it could work out as an expensive way to keep in touch. Profiles also feature, allowing you to easily change settings (like Silent, Outdoor and so on) at the touch of a button.

The 3330 is a great phone for those that don’t want to shell out for features they aren’t going to use. Available for around £25 on contract, this phone should satisfy the majority of users who want to make a few calls, send the odd text message and browse a couple of WAP sites. ®
