Qualcomm and Nokia have made peace, with the Rambus Inc of mobile phone air interfaces agreeing to extend Nokia's CDMA license at the same royalty rates the pair originally agreed in 1992.
In a joint statement that describes the deal as a "multi million expansion", Qualcomm gains access to Nokia's own CDMA patent portfolio.
Ericsson won the mother of all license battles with Qualcomm a couple of years ago, after the dispute threatened to hold up the final acceptance of the 3G spec.
We say "won" because at the time it was clear that Ericsson had cleaned up on the disputed patents. But since then, Qualcomm has prospered by jetissoning its handset business, and focussing on licensing its chip and CDMA technology, while after a torrid couple of years, Ericsson spun its handset business into a new joint venture with Sony. ®
