Lastminute gets into takeaway food business

Yum

LastMinute.com has bought Urbanbite.com, a takeaway meal delivery site.

The takeover was an all share deal which valued Urbanbite at £140,000.

Urbanbite's service allows you to order from a range of takeaway restaurants in your area, based on your postcode. You can pay online or on delivery.

The business fits in with the concept of doing something lastminute - when you're starving and can't be bothered cook anything - and also moves Lastminute away from being mainly a travel business.

The downside of Urbanbite's business is that it only serves London and Bristol in the UK at present. It also does Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

The shares were delivered on a dangerously driven moped. ®
