BTopenworld shuts Coventry call centre

100 jobs to go

More than 100 jobs have been lost at BTopenworld's call centre in Coventry as part of the broadband operation's bid to rationalise its support network.

Staff at the Order Management Desk in Coventry - which handles orders for BT's broadband services - were told on Friday that they would be out of work by Christmas.

The centre is due to shut down at the end of November.

Said one employee, who asked not to be named: "I think it is disgusting that BT is getting rid of the people who have put in over 18 months hard work getting the helpdesk set up, and who have had to put-up with systems that have never delivered what was promised."

The Coventry centre is currently run by temp staff agency Manpower on behalf of BT. The work will be allocated to other call centres.

The new contract is to be handled by jointly by Client Logic and Ignite Solutions.

Elsewhere, 235 workers at BTopenwoe's broadband support call centre at Alness in Scotland are also unsure about their futures.

The company currently running the call centre on behalf of BT, Computing Partners, has also lost the contract to run the centre.

Execs from Client Logic / Ignite Solutions are currently in Alness assessing its potential.

A spokesman for BTopenwoe confirmed that the Coventry call centre is to close.

However, it's understood that Alness could be spared, although nothing concrete has been confirmed as yet. ®
