Review The £1199 Evesham Axis may come with a Budget PC price tag, but its list of specifications would comfortably slot into our Power category. It hits the ground running with a blistering AMD Athlon 1.4GHz processor, and never really slips out of top gear. The 256MB of ultra-fast DDR memory is equally impressive, while the 40GB hard drive offers plenty of storage space.

The Evesham may be brimming with processing power, but the inclusion of a slimline 15in Samsung flat-panel monitor ensures that this PC will consume minimum deskspace. As flat-panels go, this model is reasonable, although the 15in viewing area and restricted resolution support prevent it from being a superlative screen. It's an oversight because the Samsung's lack of resolution support means that the Axis' 64MB WinFast graphics card with its Nvidia GeForce 3 chip, rather goes to waste.

Otherwise, this is an outstanding system. The Creative SB Live! 5.1 sound card and speaker system is an assured partnership, while the 16x DVD-ROM and Teac CD-RW drive (offering 12x/10x CD-R/RW facilities) are a bonus. There's plenty of opportunity (if not an enormous amount of room) for upgrading.

With top-notch components and a decent flat-panel, the Evesham couldn't fail to win our Best Buy award. ®
