Who could have guessed that The Register would have so many loyal supporters of Ipswich Town Football Club among its [soon-to-be-ex?] readers?

Dan Harris took the opportunity to set Kieren McCarthy straight on the national sport.

apart from the 30,000 that saw them beat derby yesterday and the loads more that watched it on sky.

at least we dont spend millions on players just to stay up with the best. we can do that just by being a good team and having a good town spirit and not like liverpool where ya better not leave ya car or ya wheels will get nicked.

granted we might not have a massive fan base but we have fans all over the world listening to ipswich matchs on the net, i dont know how many but every week you hear on radio suffolk of people who have emailed in (yes we do have that) from all around the world.

"maybe ipswich is better because we arent as big and not having s'kiddites attacking us with DDOS attacks or what ever.

anyway we will see who is beat at the end of the season, you just beat us last year, but as they say this years a hole different ball game.

just a quick mail to let you know what I thought of you're article on the register.

I'm sure I'm not the only Ipswich or Sunderland fan who will find the article extremely patronising. Just because Ipswich is in East Anglia doesn't mean we are all inbred yokels with no idea how to use a computer, I work in IT myself and am sure you are probably unaware that Ipswich is a fast growing area for the IT industry. Your article proves your complete ignorance of football as well since Sunderland attract crowds of 45,000 every week and are some of the most passionate fans in the country.

I would hazard a guess that you will receive a number of emails along these lines, at which point you will realise that Ipswich does have a large support base and a number of those who read the articles on your website.

I would suggest a little more research next time.

You really do write the biggest load of crap. If you are a journalist writing on a particular subject, surely you should do some research rather than make frail assumtions. How did you get this job?

Okay so it was a light hearted article but you'll still find that the statement "But they are both beaten by Ipswich Town and Sunderland - most likely because no one supports them." is complete bollocks. I can't speak for the tractor boys but Sunderland had the 3rd highest average attendance in England last season and the highest attendance in the country on the opening day of this. As you say, enough of this rubbish.

I used to think that The Register wrote well researched articles, based on fact. The statements "most likely because no one supports them" and "no one supports Ipswich or Sunderland and those that do heven't found the Internet" refering to Ipswich Town and Sunderland football clubs are clearly untrue, and are extremely offensive.

I am an Ipswich Town supporter and the main Ipswich Town fans web site (www.twtd.co.uk) is one of the most heavily used fans web sites on the internet, and if you come to Ipswich (or Sunderland, for that matter),
you will find that many tens of thousands of people support the football clubs. Also, you bothered to read the history section of the official Ipswich Town web site, you will find that Ipswich Town were the first football club to have a web site.

How can you justify the above statements? I suspect that you couldn't be bothered to check the facts and decided to repeat old and tired stereotypical lies.

I used to think that The Register was a good web site to read. I was clearly wrong about this and will not be reading your site again. ®
