BT to cut cost of Home Highway
End of the road for high prices?
BT is to cut the cost of its Home Highway ISDN service to help stimulate demand for high (ish) speed Net access.
The price cut is in recognition that the take-up of broadband services has been stifled by the high price of ADSL and the limited availability of the service, according to insiders familiar with the situation.
By cutting the cost of Home Highway, BT hopes to tempt more people to experience faster Net access bridging the gap between narrowband and broadband services.
Standard rental for Home Highway is currently £27 a month. But, according to documents seen by The Register, this is expected to fall by a quarter to around £20 a month.
It's not known if BT intends to cut other costs associated with the service.
Nor is it known when the price cuts will be introduced but its believed it could tie-in with the launch of a new gaming service that BT is expected to launch later this year.
BT declined to comment specifically on the news. Instead, a BT spokesman said: "We're always looking at innovative new products and initiatives. We also aim to offer great value wherever possible."
Elsewhere, BT Wholesale is about to embark on a joint marketing initiative with third party ISPs to promote ADSL in the UK because of the lack of awareness about broadband and its benefits. ®
