Kingston caps ADSL usage for new service

Net users are revolting

Kingston Telecommunications, the East Yorkshire telecoms company, has angered Net users by imposing a daily bandwidth cap for its newly launched ADSL service.

Subscribers to Karoo RapidTime, Kingston's residential high-speed Internet service, will be limited to a daily download quota of 700MB.

Net users in Kingston are outraged by the move arguing that the cap will impede their use of the always-on service.

At this stage it's not known how Kingston intends to enforce the restrictions. However, some customers are attempting to meet representatives from the company for an explanation.

El Reg hopes they have more luck than us. No one from Kingston was available to comment on the matter by press time.

Elsewhere, Telewest said it has no plans to introduce usage caps on its cable broadband service. Fears were raised after the cableco conducted market research which sought to gauge users' opinion to a cap.

However, a spokesman for Telewest said this was merely part of ongoing work and ruled out the introduction of a quota.

In June, Australian cable broadband outfit Telstra Big Pond sparked a major backlash among users after it said it would impose strict limits of just 3GB of usage a month for its existing customers. ®
