‘Fake’ Sony Clié PEG-N750C appears on Sony Web site

Coming on 22 September

The Sony Clié PEG-N750C, once rumoured to be the company's next Palm-based PDA and then damned as a hoax, has turned up once again - on the company's own Web site.

And the device will ship on 22 September.

It's a coincidence, of course - at least in part. The device described on Sony's Web site here isn't the same as the the machine whose specification was 'revealed' last month. There's no 32-bit screen, virtual Graffiti zone, 16MB of RAM, 66MHz CPU or PalmOS 4.5.

However, like the N770C that quickly emerged as one possible basis for the N750C rumour, the new PDA is based on PalmOS 4.1 allowing its colour LCD to operate in its full 16-bit colour glory. Indeed, it's clear the new N750C is the Japanese version of the Europe-oriented N770C.

The spec. sheet shows a 33MHz DragonBall Vz CPU, 8MB RAM, 8MB Flash OS memory, 320x320 16-bit LCD and Japanese edition Palm OS 4.1. ®
