Pentium 4 mobo output share on the up

20% in August; 30-35% this month

Mobo makers are shipping more and more Pentium 4-based parts, a result of Intel's 26 August processsor price cuts and this week's formal launch of the already-shipping i845 chipset.

P4-based boards accounted for around 20 per cent of the output from Asustek, Gigabyte and MSI - this month all three expect that figure to rise to 30 per cent, DigiTimes reports.

Mobo makers reported last month that they expect P4-based products to dominate their shipments sometime during Q4, and the jump between August and September suggests that they will have no problem at all meeting that target.

So too will lesser players who - if what they're telling DigiTimes is anything to go by - will see an even greater shift toward P4 board production. They expect P4-based parts to account for over 35 per cent of their output this month. ®
