HP pumps out DVD+RW PC
Giving format full backing
Hewlett-Packard is claiming bragging rights as the first major brand to hit PC retail with a DVD+RW machine.
The HP Pavilion 9995 goes on sale on 18 November in the US, priced at $1,999. It will arrive in the UK at the same time, called the HP Pavillion 7975, and be priced at £1,599 inc VAT.
Alongside HP's dvd100i DVD+RW drive, the PC features a 2GHz P4, 512 MB SDRAM, 80GB hard disk drive, and a Nvidia GeForce2 MX400 graphics card with 64 MB RDRAM.
The HP dvd100i DVD+RW operates at the following speeds: 2.4x DVD (re-write); 8x DVD (read); 12x CD-R (write); 10x CD-RW (re-write); 32x CD (read). The drive is able to read DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW, but not DVD-RAM. It writes in DVD+RW format.
