Eminister to plug safe eshopping

It's all about confidence

The UK Government is to launch a campaign in time for Christmas advising people how to shop safely on the Internet

Due to be launched next week, the initiative is designed to help boost consumer confidence in ecommerce at a crucial time for etailers.

Yesterday, e-commerce minister Douglas Alexander pledged £3 million to fund research and development to fight fraud and increase e-commerce security.

It's hoped the projects will ultimately help boost confidence in e-commerce and tackle fraud.

Mr Alexander said: "These projects will provide tools for business to combat fraud and increase confidence in e-business.

"Consumer confidence is key in developing a thriving market trading online," he said.

Last month, Consignia - the new name for the post office - published research in which it found that security was no longer a major barrier to ecommerce.

Instead, the postal and delivery service said that reliable deliveries were now the major impediment to ecommerce growth. ®
