E-hippies stage online Home Office sit-in

Anyone notice?

Updated An online protest group - the electro hippies - has embarked on a "sit-in" on the Home Office's Web site in response to new terrorism laws currently going through the House of Lords.

The e-hippies have set up a site where concerned members of the public can register their dislike of the legislation by running a small-scale denial-of-service attack on parts of the Home Office's main Web site.

The group is keen to point out that under the legislation even taking part in the protest technically makes you a terrorist - which pushes you into privacy no-man's land. It suggests that before you chose to follow its protest, you register with the Home Office as a terrorist.

But what effect has it had? We think we saw a noticeable slowdown today in the Home Office's Web site, particularly certain pages, but then the site has never been a contender for the 100 metres sprint.

Update

The Home Office has got back and has this to say: "We are aware of this action and have put various additional monitoring measures in place over the last two weeks. As far as we are aware the protest has had no impact whatsoever." ®
