Palm's wireless i705 launch imminent?

Now on Staples' product list, apparently

Palm's follow-up to its wireless-enabled VII and VIIx PDAs, the i705, codenamed Skywalker, has apparently turned up in Staples' product database.

A source said to be a Staples employee gave the i705's product code as SKU 479208 and its price as $450, Web site Palm Infocenter reports. A separate, plug-on Mini Keyboard is also in the database as SKU 479209, priced at $60, the site says.

The arrival of the i705 in the retailer's database suggests its release can't be too far off. Certainly Palm originally intended to launch the i705 by the end of the year, though it was later forced to admit that this was unlikely.

Details of the i705 inadvertently appeared last summer on the US Federal Communications Commission's Web site, part the process by which the device would become approved for use. Before the FCC removed the i705 information at Palm's request, the device was revealed as a mobile PDA and email terminal with a built-in antenna and always-on Internet access.

Previously, the device had appeared on the Web as the m700. ®
