AMD parades 1GHz mobile Duron

AMD today launched a 1GHz flavour of mobile Duron, just not in time for Christmas.

It's also got a big-name customer Compaq which is shoehorning the top-of-the-range budget processor into the Presario 700 line. This is available from the Compaq web site now, or from shops in early 2002.

In OEM quantities of 1,000 the 1Ghz Mobile AMD Duron cost $160; the 950MHz $130; the 900MHz $100 and $850MHz.

Here's the speccy bit: the new CPU comes with 192KB of total on-chip cache and data pre-fetch; 200MHz front-side bus, and a superscalar floating point unit with support for AMD’s 3DNow! Professional technology. And let's not forget AMD's whizzy PowerNow! power management technology.
