Red Hat Stronghold Web Server targets the Enterprise

Targets Unix

ComputerWire: IT Industry Intelligence

Linux distributor Red Hat Inc has added to its enterprise-level software portfolio with the Stronghold Enterprise web server. Based on Apache, Stronghold Enterprise is an open source web server with enhanced security and performance capabilities and increased application interoperability, according to Raleigh, North Carolina-based Red Hat.

Stronghold Enterprise follows the release of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server, a version of the open source Linux operating system aimed at high-level enterprise deployments, and cements Red Hat's attempts to steal customers away from existing Unix deployments.

The product will be available later this month for both Linux and Unix platforms. It will cost around $995 per server with a year of support and updates and will be available on a subscription basis for Advanced Server users.

Stronghold Enterprise incorporates Red Hat Content Accelerator for increased web site performance, and also features support for OpenSSL, the PHP and Perl development languages and also the Tomcat Apache Java servlet container, the AxKit Apache XML application server and DAV content editing and management tools.
