Terminator – the Seagate connection

LogoWatch Things have been pretty quiet recently on the white-knuckle rollercoaster ride that is corporate rebranding. So quiet, in fact, that when disk drive manufacturer Seagate Technology decided a month or so ago to present a new face to an expectant world, El Reg hardly raised an eyebrow.
Indeed, Seagate's rebrand launch blurb successfully avoided the worst excesses of corporate clap-trap, restricting itself to a modest building on the traditional strengths of its brand... the new identity includes a logo inspired by rotating storage media, and ideas and information in motion, as well as a new brandline, "We Turn On Ideas," reflecting the spirit of the Company and the meaning, relevance, and value that Seagate brings to its partnerships and its products.
Fair enough. Of course, a logo "inspired by rotating storage media" could by no stretch of the imagination be related to that of now-defunct film producers Carolco, clearly inspired by a stunning manipulation of the letter "c":

, in which a misguided computer manufacturer inadvertently brought about the near destruction of mankind.
We're not suggesting for a moment that one of Seagate's disk drives is about to become self-aware and trigger an all-out nuclear war. We do feel, however, that questions about these logos should be answered before a leather-clad Arnie Schwarzenegger is despatched from the future to destroy the Reg before this article can be written.
