Nominet intros new domain moving rules

Making life easier

Nominet UK - the national registry for all domain names ending .uk - has introduced new rules designed to give greater protection to domain name owners.

Anyone having problems moving their .uk domain name from one ISP or registration agent to another will now be able to get Nominet UK to do it for them - for a fee.

Nominet UK says it will charge £15 (+ VAT) for the service - and only as long as all outstanding registration or renewal fees due to Nominet have also been paid.

Ordinarily, of course, moving domains isn't a problem and is done automatically.

However, there are "several thousand" occasions each year when Nominet has to intervene because someone has a problem moving their domain.

The introduction of the new rules means that rogue domain name registration agents won't be able to stop punters moving their .uk domains to another outfit.

Nominet claims the introduction of this measure will "help the small number of registrants who have difficulty in changing provider".

The change is due to take effect next month.

Anyone having problems moving their domain can call Nominet's customer support department on 01865 332211. ®
